Hello everyone! After a long lay-off, I am back to what I love most - connecting with you people! After all, how long can friends remain scattered when April Fool's Day is here! Whenever I think of that day, I get nostalgic. I have had the most wonderful time with my friends when I was a child. All of us gathered in the neighborhood and picked a rather unassuming, quiet child to carry out our April Fool's Day pranks. Though it got out of hand on a number of occasions, leading to parents being involved, it was all fun!!

Now I don't feel like pulling pranks on anyone. May be I have got more understanding as I grew up. But that does not mean I forget to wish my friends. I make it a point to send my wishes and thoughts to my friends and family. High School Graduation Rates in the US

Back in November 2001 Dr. Jay P. Greene who was a Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institution for Policy Research prepared a report for the Black Alliance for Educational Options. Here are some interesting quick facts about the High School Graduation Rates in the US.

The national graduation rate for the class of 1998 was 71%. For white students the rate was 78%, while it was 56% for African-American students and 54% for Latino students.
Georgia had the lowest overall graduation rate in the nation with 54% of students graduating, followed by Nevada, Florida, and Washington, D.C.
Iowa had the highest overall graduation rate with 93%, followed by North Dakota, Wisconsin, andNebraska.
Wisconsin had the lowest graduation rate among African-American students with 40%, followed by Minnesota, Georgia, and Tennessee. Georgia had the lowest graduation rate among Latino students with 32%, followed by Alabama, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Less than 50% of African-American students graduated in seven states and less than 50% of Latino students graduated in eight states for which data were available.
The highest rate of graduation among African-American students was 71% in West Virginia, followed by Massachusetts, Arkansas, and New Jersey. The highest rate of graduation among Latino students was 82% in Montana, followed by Louisiana, Maryland, and Hawaii
Among the fifty largest school districts in the country, Cleveland City had the lowest overall graduation rate with 28%, followed by Memphis, Milwaukee, and Columbus.
Fairfax County, VA had the highest overall graduation rate among the districts with 87%, followed by Montgomery County, MD, Albuquerque and Boston.
Cleveland City had the lowest graduation rate among African-American students with 29%, followed by Milwaukee, Memphis, and Gwinett County, Georgia. Cleveland City also had the lowest graduation rate among Latino students, followed by Georgia’s Dekalb, Gwinnett, and Cobb counties. Less than 50% of African-American students graduated in fifteen of forty-five districts for which there was sufficient data, and less than 50% of Latino students graduated in twenty-one of thirty-six districts for which there was sufficient data.
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) finds a national high school completion rate of 86% for the class of 1998. The discrepancy between the NCES’ finding and this report’s finding of a 71% rate is largely caused by NCES’ counting of General Educational Development (GED) graduates and others with alternative credentials as high school graduates, and by its reliance on a methodology that is likely to undercount dropouts.

MySpace Friends Adder That Works

If you've spent any time at all on MySpace (and who hasn't?) then you're familiar with the outlandish claims that the site owners of MySpace friend adders and MySpace friend trains sometimes make.

"OMG this got me 1578 friends in 1 hour!!"

"I will whore you to 35,000 friends if you do this!"

"Hop on - TONS of adds! It really works!!"

I've tried pretty much everything out there and I can honestly say that most of those MySpace friend adders and trains DO work - to some extent. No, I've never gotten 1000+ friends in an hour, much less 35,000. But I've easily added a hundred new friends or so with less than 30 minutes work, which if you ask me, is not bad.

SS Friendship is one of those MySpace friend adders that I happened to see in a bulletin someone had posted on MySpace. I was surprised by how easy it was to sign up and even more surprised to find out that it actually worked.

SS Friendship is a completely web-based MySpace friend adder, so that means there's nothing to download, which is always a plus. Also it's completely free - which is good since I wasn't about to shell out any cash just to add people that I don't know and will never meet to my MySpace account.

Here's how SS Friendship works. They work on a points based system - you get 1 point for every person you add and 10 points for every person who signs up through one of your bulletins. The more points you rack up, the more friends you supposedly get.

They've capped the number of friends that you can add at 450 per day, but you'll probably notice that MySpace will slow you down a lot sooner than that - usually at around 150. After that, you'll have to type in a security code for each person you want to add which is a pain and usually the point that I quit.

They do have a cool feature that allows you to "turbo add" 5 people at once. What it actually does is open up all 5 "Confirm Friend" screens and you have to individually click "Add To Friends" for each. You get 1 point for each of the people that you add from this screen.

If you want to earn points faster, then post bulletins. It doesn't take any longer than it would to add friends individually. And if you know the trick to posting the same bulletin multiple times in a short time span on MySpace then you're pretty much set. Anyone who signs up through one of you bulletins becomes one of your referrals and you get a cool 10 points for each person.

So, interested in my results with SS Friendship? Well, they're not too bad. I'd guess I put in 30 minutes worth of work into it (over 4 days) and my stats now read:

600 points earned
8 referrals
128 friend adds received
The top points earner on SS Friendship has almost 70,000 points (as of 2/18/07) so I'm not exactly planning on taking his spot any time soon. But I'd say that SS Friendship is a pretty decent MySpace friend adder considering it's user-friendly features and results.

Keep in mind that SS Friendship will deactivate your account if you don't log in at least once a week. But to activate it again, all you have to do is sign in again.

Getting Back A Lost Friend

Friendship is like a tree. It is not actually measured on how tall it is but on how deep the roots have grown. Good friends are seldom found. Once they are found it is the responsibility of both the friends to restore the friendship.

It has always been tough to get good friends. But it is far tougher to maintain the golden touch of good friendship. With the tolling of the bell of the new era, the technologies started peeping through the new horizon. The advent of the transcendental Internet system has helped people getting back the lost touches of the past friendship.

The most excited thing in life that makes me highly charmed and inflames the aura of the enthusiasm within me is getting back in touch with a friend who had been lost amidst the mist of life. Rushing down towards him or her and embrace with the heart full of purest love and a glowing curve on my face is something that I usually do not procrastinate on getting a lost friend back.

Sad Part Of The Story

At times I really feel so depressed when I think of the people who have lost their best friends in the calamities of the Hurricane Katrina and Rita. They know that there's no technology ever invented that can bring back that charm on their face. This is the irony of fate!! Many of them have failed to maintain their ties even after they had promised a million times not to get parted.

Friends make our Life easy and provide a much needed relief from the daily hectic grind of work. Friends provide us constant joy and happiness But True friendships are difficult to find. It takes years to master the ability to create non sexual closeness. We have to learn how to choose friends skillfully. Have a balance of give and take. And building mutual trust. Finally we all must disconnect peacefully when the friendship cannot be saved.

Trying to be friends is not easy. All involved must take part. When only one side works at the friendship it will definitely die. The type of friend you are changes. It depends on your age, health, marital status, backround, commitments and priorities.

MAKING NEW FRIENDS

New friends appear to keep you young. If you have not had three to four new friends in the last year ask yourself if you have been....

Self-involved: Boring, overbearing or uninterested in others.

Out of Balance: Are you a loner, a workaholic or are others not willing to be honest and learn about you?

Inactive: Cultivating and maintaining friendships take a lot of work not just on your side.

Not Enough Time: How will you enjoy life to the fullest without finding the time?

Flustered: How can I manage my time?

Ways to Improve the Quality and Quantity of Friendships

Put your friends on your Calendar: Set aside time to spend with your friends. You can spend time with them physically or by telephone and chatting on the Internet. Also writing and sending by mail, fax or E-mailing them keeps the friendship alive. Make the time with them important. Do not always cancel at the last minute. Also if you must cancel be honest and let them know why.

Try taking the Initiative: Having acquaintances as friends can be easy. You can have a dinner at your home or go out for one. If you have an extra ticket offer it to your acquaintance. Get both families together. Go to the movies, the mall or just for a ride.

Get use to Listening: After asking your friend a question. Do not get use to using the answer to talk about yourself.

Assess before you Invest: Having a new friend is an investment of time, energy and spirit.

Ask these questions to yourself:

Are you happy to see this person?

At times do you see this person out of obligation or social climbing?

Do you respect this individual?

Do you care about their well-being?

Are you interested in the individuals mind, experiences or problems?
